In 1952, Mimoun again came second in the 10,000m and again it was Zatopek who won.
This time it was Mimoun who surged ahead just before the halfway mark and pulled away to a minute-and-a-half victory.
Mimoun waited at the finish line for his old friend Emil Zatopek, who trotted home in sixth place.

Mimoun became France's national marathon champion for the sixth time at the age of 42, and ran 2:34:36 at age 51.
The ebullient Ingrid Kristiansen was the last person to win Boston and New York in the same year (1989) and the only woman ever to concurrently hold world records in the 5000 meters, 10,000 meters and marathon (the latter mark endured for 13 years, from 1985 to 1998.).

ALAIN MIMOUN, the Gold Medallist in the Marathon event at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, will be visiting Melbourne from 18 - 24 November at the invitation of Athletics International.
Representing France, Mimoun achieved his greatest success in Melbourne after winning three silver medals at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics behind the legendary Czech runner Emil Zatopek.
Alain now 79 years of age will unveil a monument to mark the turning point of the 1956 Olympic Marathon at Princes Reserve on Princes Highway, East Oakleigh at noon on Saturday 20th November.

Mimoun nearly caught Zátopek, known as the Locomotive, a few days later in the 5,000m, but the Czech held off Mimoun's finishing kick to win in 14:06.06 -- an Olympic record.
That day made for a double celebration in the Zatopek family; his wife, Dana, had just set an Olympic record in winning the women's javelin gold medal.
