 | | The Alambagh workshop, near Lucknow was set up in 1865 and the Charbagh Locomotive Workshop soon followed suit as part of the Railways of the Princely states- the Oudh &Rohilkand Railway in 1868. |
 | | The Workshop was constructed after a felt need by the Oudh &Rohilkand Railway for maintenance of coaches in Lucknow Area, after it secured a contract to build a large BG railway system in the area north of the Ganga soon after the construction of the Metre Guage between Lucknow and Kanpur in 1867. |
 | | On Northern Railway, while day to day maintenance of Rolling Stock is done at various nominated stations, Periodic Overhaul is done at seven Workshops located at Jagadhari (Coaches and Wagons), Charbagh, Lucknow (Diesel and Electric Locomotives and DMU's), Alambagh, Lucknow (Coaches), Amritsar (Diesel Shunters), Jodhpur (Coaches), Bikaner (Coaches) and Kalka (Narrow Gauge Rolling Stock). |
