We appeal for your intervention to end the unjust imprisonment in Bangladesh of Dr. Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, an economist and former minister.
A summary tribunal set up by Bangladesh's military government has just sentenced Dr. Alamgir to 13 years in prison for having a minor "discrepancy" in his wealth statement that he had to write in jail and under duress, and with all fundamental rights in the country suspended.
For his vocal role, Dr. Alamgir was detained and tortured before, in 2002, by the BNP (a center-right party) administration in Bangladesh.

Alamgir II (عالمگير ۲) (1699 - 1759) was the Mughal emperor of India between 1754 and 1759.
Aziz-ud-Din, the second son of Jahandar Shah, was raised to the throne by Ghazi-ud-Din after he deposed Ahmad Shah in 1754.
