Alan Cumming (born 27 January 1965) is a Scottish actor, best known for his film roles in GoldenEye, as Boris Grishenko; in X2: X-Men United, as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler; and on the stage with his Tony Award-winning performance as the Master of Ceremonies in the highly successful revival of Cabaret.
Cumming was born in Aberfeldy, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, to Mary and Alex Cumming, a forester.
Cumming served as a delegate for the Creative Coalition during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston.

I hoped to see more of him and wasn't disappointed - he has since appeared in numerous films, the latest being "The Anniversary Party", opposite notable actress Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Alan was born on January 27, 1965 in Perthshire, Scotland, a place nearby his hometown village of Dunkeld where his father worked for Atholl estate.
Nineteen ninety-eight was a busy year, finding Cumming in "Spice World", and on Broadway in a role that later won him a Tony Award - that of 'Emcee' in "Cabaret", a role made famous by Joel Grey in the film adapation many years before.

Cumming, playing the deus ex machina card, ties up all the loose ends of the plot a little too easily in the last few pages by jumping a year forward.
For Alan Cumming's first attempt at a novel, I thought this was very engaging and a very easy read, due to the style of the writing with the first person narrative that constantly addresses the reader as if you were in a conversation with the author.
Cumming's language is delightfully colloquial, giving the narrative an English flavor without so much slang as to make it unreadable to Americans (as "Trainspotting" did).
