Alan Grant in JPIII... - SpielbergFilms.com Forum
Having Grant evolve from the first film into a more gnarlier, cynical, reclusive, grumpy sort of man was pulled off with total expert subtlety by Neill.
As for Grant in JP3, the only reason he was brought back was because he's more popular than Malcolm, let alone being brought up with the stupidest excuse of all time, a man pretending to be a millionaire, who turns out to be an owner of a tile shop in Oklahoma.
The Alan Grant character in JPIII, in my opinion, was written to be a darker, less-friendly guy than the first, which he was in a few scenes (the lecture at the beginning, chastising Billy for stealing the eggs) but fell short of it throughout most of the film.
