  Alan Lennox-Boyd, 1st Viscount Boyd of Merton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alan Tindal Lennox-Boyd, 1st Viscount Boyd of Merton CH PC (November 18, 1904–March 8, 1983), was a British Conservative Party politician.
Lennox-Boyd was educated at Sherborne School, Dorset and graduated from Christ Church, Oxford, with a Master of Arts and gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1940 in the service of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
Soon after his replacement he was created the first Viscount Boyd of Merton of Merton-in-Penninghame, co. Wigtown, on September 8, 1960, thereby causing a by-election for his Mid Bedfordshire constituency which was won by Stephen Hastings.

The day Lennox Boyd arrived, EOKA exploded a large number of bombs in Nicosia, perhaps to warn both sides that it would not tolerate any further `concessions' which might block the way to its declared goal, uniting the island with Greece.
Lennox Boyd met Makarios on 29 February and repeated the British policy while EOKA struck harder than ever with 19 explosions in Nicosia only.
Lennox Boyd returned to London, the next day, with empty hands and made a statement in the House of Commons on 5 March reading out the final version of the British formula on self-government.

I use this commission to investigate how an African artist living and working in London during this period was perceived in the critical discourse of art in relation to colonial subjects, and its implications for a reading of that praxis in art historical narratives of the twentieth century.
