Topic: Alan White (Yes drummer)

Alan White - Biography - AOL Music
White passed through the lineups of a lot of short-lived late-'60s outfits including Ginger Baker's Airforce (playing some keyboards there as well), where he was in the unfortunate position of working alongside legendary drummer Phil Seaman, who managed to eclipse his younger colleague at every turn.
For the most part, however, White became the bedrock of the group's sound during the turbulent late-'70s era, when Yes was struggling with membership changes and the end of the progressive rock boom, which reduced their sales and audience.
Indeed, it was White's breaking his ankle (at a roller-disco, no less) in late 1979 that precipitated the momentary end of the band that year, amid a disastrous attempt at recording a new album.

 YES - meaning of word
The group's emerging style coalesced on their next LP, the critically acclaimed ''The Yes Album'', which for the first time consisted entirely of original compositions by the band; it was also the record that united them with long-serving producer and engineer Eddie Offord; his studio expertise was a key factor in creating the Yes sound.
To their surprise, Downes and Horn were invited to join Yes as full-time members; they accepted the invitation and performed on the ''Drama'' album in 1980.While ''Drama (Yes album)'' was well received by many fans (named "Panthers" after a feature of the album's artwork), many other Yes followers missed Anderson's unique lyrics and vocal style.
Yes had major success throughout the rest of the 1980s, playing arenas and scoring major hits with "Leave It," "Love Will Find a Way," and "It Can Happen." By the end of the 1980s, Anderson grew tired of the new Yes sound and wanted the band to return to its classic sound.

 Yes
A major sidelight to the Yes story is the solo career of Rick Wakeman, who vied with Keith Emerson for the title of hottest 70s prog rock keyboard player, and sold almost as many records as Yes did during his mid-70s commercial peak.
White and Squire appear on the first side, and there's a choir on one longish track, but otherwise this is Wakeman solo.
Yes' big "comeback" record, it features their only American #1 hit single ever: the thoroughly mushy and annoying up-tempo harmony-fest "Owner Of A Lonely Heart." The funky follow-up single "Leave It" also hit the Top 40, and "It Can Happen" was all over the airwaves.

 Alan White Interview
A lot of drummers with brothers who are also drummers would probably say, 'He had nothing to do with it', but he was a big inspiration for me. I think he is the governor when it comes to drumming, he's fantastic.
Alan hasn't done the jazzer bit to the same extent as his brother, but with the relative simplicity of the Oasis gig has come an urge to get back into the, let's say, more cerebral side of drumming as well.
Of all Alan's drum parts on Morning Glory, one of the highlights has to be his work on the blinding 'Wonderwall' (which most certainly plays a major part in the overall composition).

Alan White’s first (and only) solo album garnered its share of criticism, both from critics (because it was associated with Yes) and Yes fans (because it didn’t sound enough like Yes).
