Alan married his last wife, Rohese de Lacy, in 1229, she being the daughter of Hugh de Lacy, 1st Earl of Ulster.
Alan is listed as one of the 16 men who counseled King John regarding (The royal charter of political rights given to rebellious English barons by King John in 1215) Magna Carta.
Alan died in 1234 and is buried at Dundrennan Abbey in (A district in southwestern Scotland) Galloway.

Galloway (Scottish Gaelic, Gall-ghaidhealaibh) today refers to the former counties of Wigtownshire and the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright in southwest Scotland.
Galloway comprises that part of Scotland southwards from the Southern Upland watershed and westward from the River Nith.
Alan's eldest daughter, Derbhorgail, married John de Balliol, and their son (also John) became one of the candidates for the Scottish Crown.

Helena de Quincy's portion seems to have consisted of the estates and honors of the de Morevilles, whilst Galloway was reserved for the family of Margaret, of Scotland, the second wife of Alan.
The Galloway estates which were large, possessed by the Red Comyn, seem to have come to the family through this lady.
