  Alaol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alaol (Bangla: আলাওল) (1607-1680 CE) was a medieval poet in Bengal.
Born in Faridpur, Alaol is believed to be kidnapped by Portuguese pirates while travelling on boat with his father.
Alaol worked as a bodyguard for a while, but slowly is reputation as a poet spread.

It is widely believed that Alaol was born in Jalalpur under the district of Faridpur in Bangladesh in the early years of the seventeenth century probably in 1607.
Alaol's father died in the scuffle and on a lucky escape he managed to arrive at Arakan where he was recruited for the army and taken in the cavalry section.
Alaol began to translate the religious treatise Tuhfa from Persian and came to an end of it in 1665.

Alaol (c 1607-1680) one of the greatest poets of medieval bangla literature, was probably born in 1607 in Jalalpur village in Fatwabad Pargana of faridpur district.
Alaol was also patronised by a number of other important courtiers such as Syed Musa (Royal Minister), Solaiman (Chief Minister), Mohammad Khan (Minister of Army), and Majlis Nabaraj (Minister of Taxation).

Alaol, a great Bengali poet of the 17th century, translated this verse.
One such tale is 'Saiful-Mulk-Badiuzzamal' having two versions in Bengali, of which one is rendered by Alaol and the other by Dona Gazi.
The poets have not mentioned the name of its origin, though Alaol acknowledged that, this tale was very old from Persia.

Padmavati medieval Bangla romantic poem adapted by alaol, poet laureate of the royal court of Arakan, from the original Hindi poem Padumavat in 1652 at the behest of Prime Minister Magan Thakur.
It narrates how Raja Ratnasen of Chitor marries Padmavati, a Sri Lankan princess, who is also desired by Alauddin Khilji, Sultan of Delhi, who leads a futile military invasion to win her.
The original Hindi poem has a touch of mysticism and sufism, but the Bangla version is a poem of secular human love.
