 Alauddin Alam Shah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alauddin Alam Shah was the last Malay Sultan of Singapore.
He was proclaimed Sultan on the death of his father Sultan Ali Iskandar Shah in Umbai, Malacca in 1877.
The British, who then ruled Singapore, did not recognise his claims though he was allowed to live (with a small pension) at the Sultan's Palace in Kampong Glam, Singapore till his death in 1891.

In 1537, Salauddin was poisoned by his wife, and Alauddin Riayat Shah al-Quahhar (1537-71) succeeded to the throne.
Sultan Alauddin's his first attack on Melaka in 1537 was repulsd but this show of imperialism across the Straits worried the Sultanates of Johor, Pahang, Perak and Demak, who now saw in Acheh a threat as dangerous as the Portuguese.
Alauddin is described as a wise ruler interested in the prosperity of the country.

It is known that Alauddin Khalji, another great builder, had 70,000 slaves working on his buildings, as attested to by the contemporary chronicler Ziyauddin Barani.
Prince Alauddin Khalji, as governor of Kara, recruited 2,000 Paiks with the revenue he was supposed to send to Delhi, and marched with them on an expedition to Devagiri (1296).
Also sent were ten quivers one of which was studded with pearls, and 10 swords the scabbard of one of which was inlaid with pearls and jewels.

Sultan Alauddin moved his capital to Johor Lama, nearer the Johor river estuary, and built a fort at Kota Batu nearby, to guard the river approach to the new capital.
Both Sultan Alauddin and Raja Abdullah were captured, and brought to Acheh together with most of the Johor nobility, including the venerable Tun Seri Lanang, creator of the 'Sejarah Melayu'.
Sultan Alauddin was restored to his throne in 1614, but was later again attacked by the Achinese, who suspected him of plotting alliances with their Dutch enemies.
