There's also a town called Albemarle in NC, closer to where I live than the sound, and it is spelled "Albemarle", but we pronounce it "Albermarle".
The Norfolk-Edenton portion was conveyed to the Virginia Division and eventually leased to the Chesapeake and Albemarle in 1990.
