Schotte, a two-time world champion who won the final stage of the Tour de France in 1947, died in Kortrijk after a battle with pneumonia, his son, Johan, told VRT television.
Schotte, a powerful sprinter best known for his victories in the one-day races, competed in the Flanders classic for 20 straight years and won the race in 1942 and 1948.
Schotte was the world road racing champion in 1948 and 1950 and won the Paris to Brussels race in 1946 and 1952.

Belgium's former world road racing champion Alberic "Briek" Schotte died Sunday at the age of 84, only minutes after the start of Sunday's Tour of Flanders, a race he'd won twice over the course of a 20-year pro career.
Born in September 1919 in Kanegem, in Flemish speaking Belgium, Schotte was a professional rider between 1940 and 1959.
Schotte won the Tour of Flanders in 1942 and 1948, climbing on to the podium of his favourite race eight times between 1940 and 1952.
