AlbertChristophDies (1755 ; 1822), a fellow artist, was much less successful than Hackert.
It is noticeable that Dies often chose walls or parts of classical ruins which were unspectacular at best.
The artist's intention seems therefore in spite of the elaborate title of the print not to record a well-known monument but to observe the play of light and shadow in the leaves and its reflection on the slightly curved wall.
