With such talented opposition, Albert's appearances in the Leeds first team were strictly limited.However, when news of his death reached Elland Road at the end of last month, many spoke with fondness of only the second fl footballer - Gerry Francis was the first - to pull on the famous white shirt.
Best remembered albert as a nice man with a lot of skill and others in the game have emphasised that with a little extra confidence he could have become a great player rather than a good one.
The Albert Johanneson story is one of a fallen sporting hero whose plight shocked many at Leeds United and around the football world.

Albert Johanneson (born Johannesburg, South Africa, March 13, 1940; died Leeds, September 1995) was one of the first high-profile fl players, of any nationality, to play top-flight football in England.
Johanneson, a skilful and swift left winger, joined Leeds United in 1961 and stayed there for nine years.
Johanneson got treatment and assistance several times for his illness but it eventually overpowered him and, tragically, he died in 1995 as a recluse in squalid conditions in the flat in which he lived alone.

Johanneson leaped on him with a flurry of venomous blows which had Corcoran reeling and the referee intervened to take a long, hard look before stopping the fight.
