He was born at a Christian Mission in Hermannsburgin the Northern Territory on July the 28th, 1902.

An Albert Namatjira painting was officially handed back to the residents of the Cootamundra Girls Home during Sorry Week on 26 May 1998.
The painting, Arreyonga Paddock, James Range, was donated to the Home by Albert Namitjira, who visited in 1958.
The painting hung in the main dorm of the big girls room, which is where you were moved after you reached puberty.

In July 1933 she travelled with her half-sister Una to Hermannsburg, where a succession of severe droughts had meant a lack of fresh water for the Aboriginal community.
It was here she met Albert Namitjira, and it's said she introduced him to painting.
On return to Melbourne, Violet exhibited her watercolours in aid of the Finke River Mission, then in a letter to the editor of the Argus she proposed an exhibition to raise money to bring a permanent water supply to Hermannsburg.

Simon Dawson developed a love of drawing at an early age but it wasn't until his family moved to Quorn in 1960 that he started to take his interest in art seriously and began dabbling in watercolour.
