Owen served as the attorney for the Choctaws beginning in 1890 and later in the same capacity for the Western and Eastern Cherokees.
Owen was elected to the United States Senate from the state of Oklahoma in December 1907 and was reelected in 1912 and in 1918.
Owen was a firm believer in rule by the people and was instrumental in the change to election of senators by direct popular vote.

 Biography: Owen Norris
Owen Norris was born November 24, 1954, the descendent of a long line of Norrises in Mississippi.
Owen's relationship with his paternal grandparents brightened his otherwise lonely existence; he frequently spent vacations and weekends at their New Orleans home, and loved to look through his grandmother's album of photos and mementoes from Europe.
Owen was admitted to Yale in the fall of 1974 largely due to his family legacy there, and preferred drama productions and the Skull and Bones society to his studies in business.

Owen is a nice, quiet young man--I swear Albert is at least three times louder, especially when we're having a conversation about something and he feels left out.
Albert may have enjoyed Owen's xylophone sticks, but I think Owen enjoyed even more Albert's container of beef broth (as seen in the second picture.) The can of minced clams and the large baking potatoes were also fantastic.

In 1871, when Albert Owen came up with the idea of constructing a train route through the mountains, the world was searching for a way to get from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ccean.
Owen felt that a train built through the canyon would connect the Pacific Ocean to Chihuahuahua, a city in the north central city of Mexico.
It wasn't until 1961 that Albert Owen's idea grew to fruition when the train connecting Los Mochis to Chihuahua was opened.

The survey was ordered by President Grant at the behest of Albert Kimsey Owen (far left in the photo), a former railroad surveyor and city planner, who had grandiose plans to develop a great harbor at Topolobampo.
Owen entered into an agreement to purchase 111,000 acres from a local hacienda owner and, with the help of Mexican president Porfirio Diaz, obtained concessions for the railroad and the colony.
Little remains of the Owen Utopia, but the area's rich farmlands, and the Copper Canyon railroad are the results of his vision.

Owen immediately realized Topolobampo's commercial potential as a port for the mining regions of northern Mexico, as an outlet for trade with Asia, and as the terminus of a railroad that would connect the eastern seaboard with a southern point on the Pacific coast.
Owen's vision for the colony reflected his notion of utopian socialism, which he called "Integral Co-operation," and as chairman of the Credit Foncier Company, the corporate owner of colony lands, he was able to determine much of the character of the community.

Owen organized a Mexican - American company that, among other projects, desired to build a railroad that would connect his new colony with the mid-eastern section of the United States.
In 1886, Owen established a new colony at Topolobampo with some 600 people from New Harmony, but sickness, poverty, lack of organization and communication soon reduced this number to 150.
That year, Owen secured a more favorable contract from the government and organized a new company, but this venture was also doomed to failure.
