  Albert Prefontaine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Albert Prefontaine (October 11, 1862-1935) was a Manitoba politician.
Prefontaine was first elected to the provincial parliament in 1903, running for Rodmond P. Roblin's governing Conservatives in the francophone riding of Carillon.
Conservative leader James Aikins lost his seat in the 1915 election, and Prefontaine was chosen to lead the small opposition caucus in parliament (he was officially sworn in as leader of the opposition in January 1916).

His father, Albert Prefontaine, had previously served in the Assembly for twenty-nine years, and was a cabinet minister in John Bracken's government.
Prefontaine was re-elected in the 1936 and 1941 provincial elections, and won without opposition in 1945.
Prefontaine was a supporter of the coalition for many years, but crossed to the opposition benches in 1949.

She was the sister of the late Albert Potter, a prominent artist whose work hangs in the Smithsonian and the Museum of the City of New York; the late Dr. Charles Potter, after whom the Potter Memorial Wing of the Rhode Island Hospital is named; the late Irving "Mike" Potter and the late Annette Etscovitz.
Rev. Prefontaine was also assigned treasurer of the Eymard Seminary of Hyde Park, New York, from 1967 through 1970 and as the associate pastor of the St. Paschal Baylon Church in Heighland Heights from 1970-1973.
In 1975, Rev. Prefontaine was named the procurator general of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament at the international headquarters in Rome, serving from 1975-1981.

Prefontaine Classic meet record holder Coby Miller (10.00), who won in Portland last Saturday by equaling his personal best of 9.98, is also in the field, along with Mt. SAC Relays champion (9.95) and 2001 World Outdoor Championships relay gold medalist J.J. Johnson.
The Hayward Field and Prefontaine Classic record of 13.12 is held by Johnson and another competitor in the field, Larry Wade, ranked #3 in the world last year by Track and Field News.

It was announced this week that the late Steve Prefontaine has been selected for induction into the National High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Prefontaine will be honored with 13 additional inductees in ceremonies July 8 in Minneapolis.
At the time of his death due to an automobile accident in 1975, Prefontaine held every American record from 2,000 to 10,000 meters.
