As of 2004, the population of the province was 3,183,312 (Albertans).

More than half of Albertans surveyed in a new poll said they had serious concerns about Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day's performance, signalling a political change in what is known as the heart of Alliance country.
The survey of 800 Albertans was done before Day's leaderhsip came under attack this week, in which senior MPs resigned from the party's caucus and Calgary MP Art Hanger publicly called for Day's resignation.
Albertans are also still upset about an $800,000 bill for left for taxpayers from a lawsuit involving Day and a Red Deer lawyer and school trustee, Lorne Goddard.

The August 22 edition of the Western Standard newsmagazine reports that 43% of Albertans think "western Canadians should begin to explore the idea of forming their own country." Across the West, the favorable response averaged 36%.
According to this poll, separatist opinion is as strong in Alberta as in Quebec.
If Albertans approved, the Legislature would simply pass a law requiring all federal taxes to be paid after a set date to the provincial treasury.

Albertans have made an about-face on the Kyoto accord, with a majority demanding the federal government drop its support for the global warming treaty for a made-in-Canada solution, according to a poll released Friday.
Pollsters for Environics West also found people are becoming better versed on the protocol, with 91 per cent of respondents acknowledging they've heard of the accord, and of those, 55 per cent claiming to understand it.
Other findings released Friday suggest 70 per cent of Albertans believe Canada will be hurt economically under Kyoto, with business going elsewhere in light of the fact the United States isn't a signatory and Mexico is exempt.

Albertans will start the new year with an extra $400 in their pockets, the province's finance minister says, promising that rebate cheques funded through a record projected budget surplus would be in the mail by January.
"Albertans work hard and contribute to the strength of the province," Finance Minister Shirley McClellan said Tuesday in a news release.
Homeless Albertans are also eligible for the rebate, and McClellan says the province will work with shelters and agencies to get the money to those without fixed addresses.

In a random telephone survey carried out earlier this year, respondents were asked to rate the health of a number of Alberta institutions on a scale of one to five (very unhealthy to very healthy).
Less surprisingly, the report also found that a majority of Albertans feel the province's environment and education and health care systems are not in a healthy state, said Dr. Harvey Krahn, who co-authored the study along with Dr. William Johnston, both of the U of A's sociology department
