Albertsons’ pharmacies extract a customer’s confidential medical information from prescriptions and then place it in a database that can be retrieved by specific medical characteristics.
Albertsons and its affiliated companies are the second largest supermarket chain and fifth largest drugstore retailer in the nation with more than 2,300 stores in 31 states nationwide, including over 500 in California.

 Supervalu leads buyout of Albertsons stores
Albertsons buyers -- Supervalu, CVS Corp. and a group of investment firms including Cerberus Capital Management LP and Kimco Realty Corp. -- will split the company into three parts.
For shoppers at the 85 Albertsons in Washington -- 47 of which are within 30 miles of Seattle -- the change could mean the introduction of new offerings such as Supervalu's new private-label brand of organics, called "Nature's Best," and fruits and vegetables from its specialty produce company, W. Newell & Co.
Albertsons shares rose $1.31, or 5.4 percent, to close at $25.42 on the New York Stock Exchange on Monday; Supervalu shares rose $2.13, or 6.7 percent, to finish at $33.98; and CVS shares fell 11 cents to $26.96.
