Albio Sires (born January 26, 1951) is a Democrat, who has been a representative to the New Jersey General Assembly since 2000, where he represents the 33rd legislative district.
Sires served as the Speaker of the Assembly from 2002-2006 and was the first Hispanic to serve as New Jersey's Assembly Speaker.
Sires has filed to run for the Congressional seat for both the election for a full two-year term and for the special election to complete the final two months of Menendez' term.

Sires protected funding for New Jersey's Senior Gold and pharmaceutical assistance programs, fought to make New Jersey a leader in high-tech medical research by legalizing embryonic stem cell research and providing millions in new cancer research funding and passed legislation to help working families pay for their health care costs.
Sires was born in 1951 in the Cuban community of Bejucal, where he grew up in the waning years of pre-Communist Cuba.
