  Albion (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Albion is a six issue comic book series plotted by Alan Moore, written by his daughter Leah Moore and John Reppion with covers by Dave Gibbons and art by Shane Oakley and George Freeman.
The series aims to revive classic British comics characters such as Captain Hurricane, Robot Archie, The Steel Claw and The Spider (as well as minor characters like Fishboy and Faceache), all of who appreaded in comics published by IPC Media during the 1960s and early 1970s, such as Valiant and Lion.
Thunderbolt Jaxon, a "spinoff" of Albion - written by Dave Gibbons and drawn by John Higgins, with covers by Gibbons - was launched as a five issue mini-series in 2006.

 Comics Should Be Good: An Unnecessary Guide to Albion
Today, DC (in conjunction with IPC Media) is releasing the first issue of Albion, with plots by Alan Moore, scripts by Leah Moore and John Reppion, art by Shane Oakley and George Freeman and covers by Dave Gibbons.
Robot Archie ceased publication in 1974, and besides some odd appearances in Grant Morrison or Alan Moore comics, he has not appeared in English comics since (this is the same for most of these characters.
I've just read 'Albion' #1, and there's really not much background info given on who any of the characters the comic book fan guy encounters/gains evidence of are.

The first comic book I ever read was an issue of Detective Comics in 1966 and I think that DC have consistently pushed the comics-publishing envelope over the last twenty years.
British comics were fl and white weekly anthology titles (in a larger format than US comic books) that featured a number of heroes' adventures every week (usually in weekly double-page-spread strips).

 Captain Albion (Captain Britain Corps)
Alan Moore intended Captain Albion's Earth to be a neo-Elizabethan England whose empire embraces America and most of Asia in a golden age of peace, enlightenment and prosperity (based on the Michael Moorcock novel Gloriana).
Captain Albion's world seems to be one still very influenced by the language and values of Elizabethan times (Shakespeare's time).
When correcting Captain Britain, Captain Albion instructs him: "By Od's death, the courtly pursuit of gentleness fain would serve thee well, I trow." In Elizabethan times, it wasn't considered proper to use the word "God" in a curse/exclamation, so various methods were used to avoid it, "Od" being one of them.

That may be politics or the comic medium, but regardless, it never fails to fascinate.
ALBION resurrects a generation of British superheroes by first explaining their sudden absence by realizing them in a world like our own.
She co-scripted ALBION with John Reppion and, while I don't know how detailed her father's plot was, the two did a fine job creating an accessible narrative out of admittedly weighty subject matter.

Albion will revive many old comics characters which first appeared in British comics in the 1960s such as master criminal The Spider and invisible thief The Steel Claw -- possibly two of the first UK comics "anti-heroes", although both characters were softened later in their run.
One comics publisher described the whole thing as "gutless"… Still, there's some good news for DC Thomson's comics editors in the past couple of weeks: a recent revamp of Beano stablemate The Dandy has apparently resuled in a 50 percent jump in sales.
The anthology title, which will be launched at the UK Comic Expo in May (top guest at that is J. Michael Straczynski) includes contributions from Liam Sharp (The Possessed, Spawn: the Dark Ages, The Hulk), Ashley Wood (Popbot), and Steve Niles (30 Days of Night).

Outside of being a comics’ fan he was also an imbedded reporter and loves the idea behind it.
Comics that just happen to come in a variety of cover flavors without invoking a premium for any particular cover are part of another discussion.
For the non-involved -- guys like me, and presumably most of you, who are as likely to pay a premium for a comic with a sketched cover as we are to pass on a free one -- I think the whole variant topic smacks too much of 1993.

The WildStorm comics and the Titan books carry mutual advertising, one for the other, as the two projects, the republication of old stories on one hand, and the reinvention of the old characters on the other, go hand-in-hand.
One possible explanation for this fascination with the past is the fact that, out of what were, if not hundreds, at least many dozens of titles being published on a weekly or monthly basis in the UK up to the 1970’s, only four titles still survive.

A notorious criminal kingpin is about to go on trial, and the collector recognizes him as being remarkably similar in appearance to a villain from one of the more cartoony strips from his old comics.
His stuff's a little too dark in the opening scenes, as he's meant to be establishing the cast of characters, and it's not always clear what's going on.
So the government is hiding the heroes and villains of yesteryear in a prison, buried the truth and ignored it.

 furry comics (ANTHROPOMORPHIC)
I really didn't think I was going to like this comic, but half way through reading it, I realised that I was really enjoying it.
This is due to some great writing by Jonathan Bryans, that turns an average furry action comic into a decent, well paced story with characters who promise to develop dimension.
Tony has a defined cartoony styleall of his own, and the story has the potential to be a good fantasy yarn.
