The club was formed with the merger of Albion and Rovers in 1882 and admitted to the Scottish Football League in 1903.
Albion Rovers Football Club (Albion Rovers F.C.) are a Scottish football team from the North Lanarkshire town of Coatbridge, who currently playing in the Scottish Football League.
Rovers (as their fans prefer the team to be referred, rather than Albion) contested the 2004-05 season in the Third Division and have twice in the last few years been denied promotion on the final day of the season.

Historically, the town’s proximity to Glasgow has made it difficult for Rovers to attract supporters, as the "Old Firm" of Rangers and Celtic are a big draw to the local inhabitants.
