The stations make up 10 radial train lines, which all operate out of Southern Cross Station in Melbourne, Australia, with 3 further lines proposed to be reopened to Vline passenger rail services.
Some trains will be timetabled to terminate before the end of the line, although on some lines all trains will terminate at the last station at all times.
The Echuca line has been replaced with buses since 19 December 2004, and is planned to be reopened in late 2006, pending an upgrade of the line.

On 21st April, 1978, the last regular goods train on the line made its journey, and by 1981 the Wodonga to Cudgewa railway line was officially closed.
In 1994, the Albury Wodonga Development Corporation submitted an expression of interest in the railway line to the State "Rail Trails Program", and after a comprehensive assessment of the recreational and conservation values of the trail, a management plan was prepared by the Rail Trail Working Group in 1996.
Parklands Albury Wodonga were appointed to manage the restoration of the Rail Trail in 2001.

Wodonga has peculiar problems in that there is a large number of quite busy level crossings closely spaced through the city centre.
The sg line passes within 20 metres of the platform yet is unable to service it, limiting northbound journey opportunities to reaching Albury only (but with a half decent onward XPT connection in the morning).
Wodonga is a large country town and the line is a through track and doesn't have the patronage that Newcastle has.

In exchange for this the Bowling Club will hand over part of their land to be included into a New Bus Interchange which will tie together most Bus Routes operating in Northern Victoria and Southern NSW.
If it is half as good as the Albury Council is saying, it should be a good thing for this Region.

In 1887 contract No. 2663, for the 14.5-mile first section from Wodonga to Huon's Lane, was awarded to E. Barkly and Co. In 1888 R. Thornton and Co was awarded contract No. 3492 for the 11-mile 66-chain next section to Tallangatta.
Between 1930 and 1932 Barker's original line between Ebden and mileage post 206 was relocated to higher ground, Huon Lane Station was rebuilt 59ft higher and a 1866ft long concrete and steel bridge was built over Sandy Creek.
