During the Spanish Civil War, the Alcázar of Toledo was held by the Nationalist Colonel José Moscardó Ituarte against the Republican forces.
The Alcázar of Seville was built in the 1360s by Moorish craftsmen for Pedro the Cruel who, with his mistress, Maria de Padilla, lived in and ruled from the Alcazar, and often remodeled.
General Alcazar is also the name of a character featured in many of the Tintin comic books.

Pedro Alcazar (September 16, 1975 – June 23, 2002) was a young boxing talent who had won the World Flyweight championship.
After losing his title to Fernando Montiel in a fight in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 22, 2002, he was declared healthy by ringside doctors, with no visible signs of any trauma.
Alcazar went sightseeing the day after the fight and was in his hotel room getting ready to board a plane back to Panama when he collapsed.
