	Dire Straits
		In the spring of 1984, the band released the double-album Dire Straits Live -- Alchemy and by the end of the year, they had begun recording their fifth studio album with their new keyboardist, Guy Fletcher.
		Dire Straits emerged during the post-punk era of the late '70s, and while their sound was minimalistic and stripped-down, they owed little to punk.
		Apart from releasing the Twisting By the Pool EP early in 1983, Dire Straits was quiet for the majority of 1983 and 1984, as Knopfler produced Bob Dylan's Infidels, as well as Aztec Camera and Willy De Ville; he also wrote "Private Dancer" for Tina Turner's comeback album.

		Some are, maybe but not all and this album definitely has its moments but is a bit overrated I think compared with subsequent live concerts the band did.
		Not my favourite live album by any means and certainly not among their best work.
		I beg to differ from some reviewers that the live renditions of some of the tracks on this LP are better than the studio versions.

		The voice of Mark Knopfler over his own guitar gives a very interesting characterisitc to this album, which cannot be said about the live albums in which the voice is much different.
		When they released BROTHERS IN ARMS, their albums were outselling their concerts.

		There is a live album which I like very much which none of you mentioned: Alchemy by Dire Straits.
		LED ZEPPELIN's 'Song Remains The Same' is a great live recording, and I think I forget how good it is because first I don't have it at the moment, and second, because I've heard so many incredible Zep boots that absolutely make their official live set seem a bit weak.
		The LIVE JAM disc that comes with JOHN and YOKO's SOME TIME IN NEW YORK CITY.........Nice COLD TURKEY from Lyceum London 1969, but this is followed by DON'T WORRY KYOKO by Yoko, running about 15 minutes.

		Too slow in the main, the instrumentals ramble at times and the weakest track on the set 'Love Over Gold' (which was not included on the vinyl version of the album) should have been left off - the original studio version of this track was definitely better; ditto 'Romeo and Juliet' which also drags on.

		However this is where I start subtracting the stars: The one cut from 'Alchemy' is the worst track on the CD (the original studio version of 'Love Over Gold' is far superior to the live rendition here).
		If you listen to any one Straits album or watch their powerhouse performance at the Nelson Mandela 70th birthday concert on video, it is easy to understand why Dire Straits reigned supeme throughout the world in the 80's.
		The frantic guitar solo of 'Sultans of Swing' the rythm of 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Tunnel of Love' combined with the apprehensive yet expolsive guitar on 'Private Investigations' are evidence of how for a band that had at one point been severly in the red, 'Love over Gold' had won through.

		All the Chords in Sultans of Swing are Dm, C, Bb, A, A7, F and C :).
		Nat, "Sultans of Swing" might have the best guitar solo ever played or recorded, but it's not the studio version.
