Williamstown is situated on the eastern boundary of the county and is bounded north by Orwell and Redfield, east by Oneida county, south by Amboy, and west by Albion.

John Alden (1599?-September 12,1687) was one of the Pilgrims who emigrated to America in 1620 on the Mayflower and founded the Plymouth Colony.
Another theory is that John Alden came from Harwich, England where there are records of an Alden family who were related by marriage to Christopher Jones, the Mayflower's captain.
John Alden's house in Duxbury, built in 1653, is open to the public as a museum.

After the recent Alden Town Board work session ended Tuesday evening, there appeared to be a universal outcry by core members of the Alden Residents for Responsible Growth (ARRG) coalition and their supporters that the downsized rezone proposal was nothing more than “smoke and mirrors.”
At Tuesday’s Town Board work session, Attorney Sherwood declared the reason for the reduction in rezone size was because of land elevation and topography.
The Alden residents who shared their thoughts and concerns with the writer share a common thought: We just love this place the way it is. We have a spot in town for a store, and that’s what we want a store.
