Aldershot Town Football Club was founded in the spring of 1992 just after the closure of debt ridden fourth division club Aldershot F.C., who had been founded in 1926 and had been league members since 1932.
In 2003-04 Aldershot Town qualified for the Conference National promotion playoffs but lost on penalties to Shrewsbury Town in the final after a 1-1 draw.
Aldershot Town F.C.'s main rivals are considered currently to be Woking F.C. and Farnborough Town F.C. Reading F.C. were former rivals of the old team, Aldershot F.C. but have never played the new side in a competitive fixture.

I lived in the centre of Aldershot in the early 1960's, then it was a busy town and home of the British Army.
Aldershot once had a thriving entertainments industry certainly up to the 1960's, five cinemas in total namely: Alexander, Empire, Palace, Pavillion and Ritz (more here) and two theatres, the Hippodrome near the bus station and the Theatre Royal on Gordon Road between Birchett Road and Elms Road.
Around the 1880s it was proposed to build a Tramway from Aldershot to North Camp and Farnborough, you can read about it here The railway arrived in the area by 1849 the nearest staions being Ash Green and Tongham on the now defuct Guildford to Farnham direct line.

It is situated on the river Blackwater, near the Basingstoke canal, and gives name, with Ash, to a station on the Reading branch of the South Eastern railway.

The parish of Aldershot (sometimes formerly spelt Aldershott) and Bentley was incorporated under Gilbert's Act of 1782 which allowed it greater control over its management of poor relief, including the power to set up a workhouse for the elderly and infirm and children.
In 1846, Aldershot became part of the new Farnham Poor Law Union and in 1849 the building was taken over for use as a school by the Farnham and Hartley Wintney School District.
In 1855, the building was bought by the Board of Ordnance for use as a hospital by Aldershot Camp.
