I pass along some advice given by Aldo Abreau (sp?), a very talented recorderist, at a workshop I attended last fall.
Since the historically-correct are already incensed at this point, I'll add that since the acoustics of the place were terrible, Aldo used electronic amplification with a tiny microphone mounted on the recorder.
I was however, incensed that, following an abysmally performed Brandenburg Concerto #3 by the orchestra, the conductor introduced Aldo and explained that the recorder was an "obsolete" instrument.

The fifth annual international celebration of Play-the-Recorder Month took place in March when members of the American Recorder Society all over North America performed in public places such as libraries, bookstores, museums and shopping malls, offering workshops to improve the playing skills of the participants, and giving demonstrations in schools.
Although the recorder dates back to medieval times, this century has witnessed a revival of its popularity because of a growing interest in the instrument and its music, perhaps due to virtuosos such as Aldo Abreu, The Flanders Recorder Quartet, The Loeki Stardust Quartet, etc., not to mention its portability and affordability.
Play-the-Recorder Month developed out of an event that was staged as part of the "ARS50" anniversary celebration, during which members all over the world performed a commissioned piece simultaneously on April 1, 1989.
