Aldo Nova's 1981 eponymous debut is a masterpiece from a style that didn't have too many masterpieces, period: early-'80s album-oriented rock.
Nova's album has all the hallmarks of the time, particularly in its sleek surfaces, yet its blend of pop and hard rock points forward to some trends that surfaced later in the decade.
Aldo Nova kicks off in grand fashion with "Fantasy" and "Hot Love" and it sustains its momentum until the end, and years later, it still is an unabashed pleasure, one of the great AOR records and an unacknowledged power pop treasure.

Aldo Nova: Aldo Nova : Music Reviews : Rolling Stone
It's no surprise, then, that one of the hottest acts around is studio wunderkind Aldo Nova; his eponymously titled debut LP is so single-mindedly devoted to surface flash that what little substance it contains seems to have been tossed in as an after-thought.
Nova's prodigious skills as a soundsmith are so awesome, in fact, you almost don't notice how predictable and cliché-ridden his songs are, or how vapid his solos turn out to be.
Unable to match his sound effects with the melodramatic bellowing they demand, Nova fails even by the limited standards dictated by his hard-pop approach.

Aldo Nova: self-titled - PopMatters Music Review
Aldo Nova can be praised or blamed for a lot that came after in the following years (it hit Number 8 on the Billboard 200, so it it was definitely on people's radars), so in the intervening decades, some of it obviously comes across as a little dated.
To be sure, Nova benefited from them, too, but his subsequent records lacked the fire that fueled the best parts of his debut.
All of Nova's musical traits, though, from the hard rock riffs to the tender ballads are on Aldo Nova, and apart from his career retrospective A Portrait of Aldo Nova, this is really the only place to look for his best stuff.

Aldo Nova, reeling from the lack of success that was offered a decade earlier, launched a last-ditched attempt to combat anachronism with Blood On The Bricks, a fun, power-rock album that generates a shimmering rock sheen.
It was payback time for Bon Jovi, who was helping Aldo Nova out on his own self-created label as a thank you to Nova's work on the Young Guns II: Blaze Of Glory soundtrack a year or so earlier.
Sure, there are production elements that clearly place this Aldo Nova work firmly in the no-mans-land of rock (somewhere in the late-eighties to early nineties) but there are still enough reasons to seek it out.
