Aldo Ray at Brian's Drive-In Theater
By chance Ray landed a role in the Columbia drama Saturday's Hero (1951; with John Derek), and his performance was good enough for Columbia to sign him to a contract.
Ray found good roles hard to come by in the 1970s and 1980s, but somehow he managed to keep working in exploitation and horror films; Ray even acted (but remained clothed) in a late 1970s porno titled Sweet Savage (1979; with Carol Connors).

We're No Angels (1955): Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, Peter Ustinov, Basil Rathbone - PopMatters Film Review
Bogart, Peter Ustinov, and Aldo Ray clearly relish the opportunity to play against type, but their interaction lacks the snap you would expect to see from a stage production.
As such, the film is probably 15 or 20 minutes longer than it needs to be, and all that time is spent in unnecessary pauses between lines, as well as devoted to elaborate staging, the type of deliberate interaction that may work on screen but is death on stage.
The three convicts are supposedly dangerous felons -- Ustinov's Jules is a safecracker and a murderer, Ray's Albert is an undefined sex fiend, and Bogart's Joseph is a relatively sedate white-collar bookmaker (the first time we seem him, however, he's complaining that he failed to kill a guard during the convict's escape).

Matched with Cukor's protoge (ahem!), Aldo Ray, Judy is remarkable in this role, playing an ordinary housewife whose marriage is on the brink of dissolving.

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: The Marrying Kind
The picture marks the feature debut of Aldo Ray, who would enjoy a substantial, if unspectacular, film career with his rugged good looks and sandpaper-rasp of a voice.
Cukor captures the New York settings well, and one particularly inventive sequence utilizes an elaborate set to transfer an anxious, dreaming Ray from his bed directly onto a post office conveyor belt and into a massive mailroom (where he's far behind in his work and told the president is about to arrive).
It's hard to fault Holliday and Ray for their skill at portraying a frustrated, somewhat immature married couple plagued by doubt, jealously, and financial insecurity — it's another thing altogether to describe these very realistic sequences as light Hollywood entertainment.

Trouble is, among the recruits only McQueen/Jones (whose job is mostly comic relief) and Aldo Ray (as a brawling lumberjack who's never known family life) have any charisma or acting chops--and that's not forgetting Tab Hunter, whose matinee-idol status at the time does not speak well for the '50s.
Sure, the Danny [Tab Hunter] character is pure mush, but even there, it's probably his best acting and kudos also goes to Aldo Ray, as a hardass lumberjack who finds true love along the way.
James Whitmore as Sgt. Mac, Aldo Ray, Tab Hunter, L. Jones and Perry Lopez as Marine recruits and Dorothy Malone, Anne Francis and Nancy Olsen as their love interests all give standout performances.
