	Alecto (SPG) - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
		The Alecto was an experimental self propelled gun developed by the British in World War II but terminated with the end of the war in Europe.
		Two guns were made, and one of these was chosen for test mounting on a Harry Hopkins tank chassis.
		Like the Harry Hopkins, the Alecto had skid steering, which operated by bowing the tracks through lateral movements of the central road wheels.

	Great Britain's Self Propelled Guns (SPG).
		During the dark days of 1940, there was a severe shortage of armored vehicles and all sorts of vehicles were made and tested to fill the gap.
		Birmingham Carriage and Wagon was asked in June 1941 to develop a SPG using a Valentine chassis.
		Upon historical reflection, this tank would have been a deathtrap as SPGs tended to draw all sorts of unwanted attention on the battlefiled and the armor was too thin to stop even a simple rifle bullet.

	Great Britain's Light Tanks
		The tank was inferior to needs of the late war and, upon historical reflection, was an unneeded waste of material.
		The Harry Hopkins chassis was used as a basis for the Alecto self-propelled 95mm howitzer (see the Self Propelled Gun section or the entry below).
		A small number of Alecto SPGs were converted to a dozers in 1945.
