Alexander Alekhine   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Alexander Alekhine Alexander Alexandrovich Alekhine (sometimes spelled "Aljechin") (in Russian, Александр Александрович Але́хин), (October 31 or November 1, 1892 – March 24, 1946) was a chess master, one of the great world chess champions.
Alekhine was born into a wealthy family in Moscow, Russia: his father was a landowner and a member of the Duma; his mother, who along with his brother taught him chess in 1903, was the daughter of a rich industrialist.
Alekhine's first chess accomplishment was when, in 1909, at the age of seventeen, he won the All-Russian Amateur Tournament in St. Petersburg with a score of twelve wins, two losses and two draws.

Adopted for a time by World Champions Alekhine and Botvinnik, it is still played occasionally at the top level by Short and others.

The nimzo-indian and queens indian are very different in nature; i dont usually play either, but recently have been experimenting with the line 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 b6 4.g3 Ba6 5.b3 b5!?, a novelty which seems to offer interesting play.
Otherwise I would play benoni/ kings indian to d4 mainly, but I try to remain flexible (i have found chigorins defence to be good).
As for 1.e4 (my move of choice) I enjoy implementing the sicilian dragon, of which I know rather a lot of theory for, or sometimes the najdorf, but i also play the french and other stuff whenever I feel like a change.

It is correct that Alekhine introduced this defence in master play - I think he played some nice games against Mieses and Steiner.
In addition, most of the opening theory of this line is well-established and there is much less room for surprises than in other variations that white can play against the Alekhine defence.
