Alexander Mogilny (born February 18, 1969, in Khabarovsk, USSR) is an ice hockey player, currently with Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League.
Mogilny was one of the first Soviet ice hockey players to defect to the NHL.
Mogilny was the leading goal scorer in NHL in 1992-93 NHL season and has been the leading scorer on his team several seasons.

May 5, 1989: Aleksandr Mogilny, drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1988, defects with the assistance of Sabres management.
In 1992-93, Mogilny registered 76 goals and 127 points in 77 games after three mediocre seasons that were marred by troubles with management and a fear of flying.
An "associate" who had helped Mogilny defect to Buffalo tried to extort $150,000 from the star and was convicted for the crime.

I'm no expert on Russia, but to me, Aleksandr, Maksim, and Aleksej all look like the authentic way to spell those names.
They can make each player use a different spelling for their name, and you can ignore the player with the spelling that you think is wrong.
The bottom line is, you didn't follow the instructions you were given, and that's apparently resulted in a bunch of duplicates being created.

He started gymnastics at age 5, when two coaches - Aleksandr Genkin and Vladimir Shchegolev - came to his kindergarten in Voronezh looking for potential gymnasts.
He loved it before Atlanta, but then he "cooled" toward it because he made "a serious mistake." His idol is Valentin Mogilny - he really admires the way he worked on pommel horse.
He's not sure what he wants to do after his competitive career is over.
