Alemannic Separatism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alemannic Separatism is a movement advocating the unification of the Alemannic speaking areas northeast of the Rhine and Lake Constance with Switzerland.
Historically, Alemannic Separatism was a political movement during the early 19th Century and the time after the two world wars; whereas the contemporary Alemannic Separatism is no organized political movement, but an occasionally found sentimental attitude among the Alemannic speaking population northeast of the Rhine and Lake Constance.
Therefore, Alemannic separatism is often seen as a threat to the integrity of Switzerland.

His failure and death, followed by Gallienus' swift departure to deal with an Alemannic invasion of Italy, left a power vacuum in the Danubian provinces at a critical time.
Nevertheless, it did not endear Gallienus to the locals, who (correctly) perceived him to be putting their security aside in order to concentrate upon the safety of Italy.

All social groupings can be seen as a form of separatism to some extent, as they rely on on a social identity that explicitly or implicitly excludes non-members; the modern nation state is one such example.
However, while there is no distinction between these phenomena and separatism, the term "separatism" usually implies completely separate societies.

The bewilderment is lessened, perhaps, as one comes to understand that in a communitarian (as opposed to individualist) worldview, there really is no such thing as a private matter.
Amish separatism is the necessary condition for maintaining their dependence on one another.
While many Amish have cordial relations with the neighbors they call “English” (a reference to the fact that outsiders do not speak the old Alemannic dialect of German still in use among the Amish), they have very mixed feelings about the attention drawn by their lifeways.

The events of 1923 and 1924 sharpened the distinction between traitor and patriot, threatening to dissociate patriotism and love for Heimat from the tenuously established institutions of the German republic.
The national crisis of 1923 thus represented both climax and defeat for the essentially domestic and pacifistic nationalism of Heimat.

Many authors have cited that group practices such as dress, language, and education help to prevent group members from interacting with non-group members, thus making it more difficult for members to leave the group (Finke 1997; Ianaccone 1994; Kanter 1972).
Their dress and language become symbols of their group's beliefs – of separatism from and of being different from "the World." These symbols are powerful tools in binding the community together.
Finke (1997), in his investigation as to why female Catholic religious orders were declining after Vatican II, found that the decline in communal living, the loss of distinctive dress, and the increase in individual autonomy all increased non-group activity.
