Alessandro Altobelli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alessandro Altobelli (born November 28, 1955 in Sonnino, Latina) is a former Italian football player.
Nicknamed Spillo ("Needle") for his slender build, Altobelli was one of the most effective Italian forwards of the late 1970s and 1980s.
Altobelli also played at Euro 80, the 1986 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 88, where he played as team's captain.

Observer | Seven-up Inzaghi back on selfish streak
As Newcastle slunk away from the Stadio delle Alpi, their executioner, Juventus's Alessandro Del Piero, was the picture of contentment.
For a player who spent the last couple of years tormented by persistent doubts that he would never again be the marvel he was before a cruciate injury, a beautifully crafted goal glut this season is a point proved.
Altobelli might have been a more polished performer but the new Mr Europa shares his lust for goals.

Francesco Totti has only just returned from injury while Alessandro Del Piero, at 31, is not exactly in the best of form as age threatens to derail his shot at international glory.
While world-class strikers like Paolo Rossi, Alessandro Altobelli, Salvatore Schillaci and Christian Vieri used to lead the front line in previous world editions, this time around unheralded Luca Toni and Alberto Gilardino will carry the goal burden.
Any side hoping to win the World Cup must have a formidable defence and with Gianluigi Buffon in goal, Alessandro Nesta and Fabio Cannavaro at the heart of the backline, wily coach Marcello Lippi has experience, strength, pace, intelligence plus a mean streak in front of Italy's goal.

rediff.com sports: Inzaghi hat-trick as AC Milan rout Deportivo
Seedorf broke the deadlock with his crisp 20-metre drive, but it was the combination of the deadly finishing of the Milan marksman and the defence-splitting passes of the magnificent Rui Costa that proved to be the key to the comprehensive victory.
Inzaghi's hat-trick took his tally of goals in European competition to 40, one more than the former Italian record set by one-time Inter Milan striker Alessandro Altobelli.
But just as Depor looked to be gaining the upper hand Dutch international Seedorf picked up a pass from Rui Costa on the left, cut inside two defenders and unleashed a firm right foot drive that fizzed past keeper Juanmi into the bottom corner on 17 minutes.

The "right moment" sees Inzaghi in a Milan squad brimming with talent that includes recent arrivals Alessandro Nesta, Clarence Seedorf, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Rivaldo as well as established squad players like captain Paolo Maldini, Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko (currently injured), Andrea Pirlo and Portuguese schemer Rui Costa.
