	The Alps - Ascent Of The Aletschhorn
		Looking at the Aletschhorn from the Sparrenhorn, or from any other point which commands a similar view of the pyramid, we see upon the ridge which falls from the summit to the right, and at a considerable distance from the top, a tooth or pinnacle of rock, which encloses with the ridge a deep indentation.
		As we rise, however, the Dom steadily loses its individuality, until from the ridge of the Aletschhorn it is jumbled to a single leviathan heap with the mass of Monte Rosa.
		The ridge of the Aletschhorn is of schistose gneiss, in many places smooth, in all places steep, and sometimes demanding skill and strength on the part of the climber.

		The Bernese Oberland is that part of the Swiss Alps lying between Lake Geneva and the River Reuss; it rises above the 4,000 m/13,124ft mark in the Finsteraarhorn (4,274 m/14,023ft), the Aletschhorn (4,195 m/13,764ft), the Schreckhorn (4,078 m/13,380ft), the Mönch (4,099 m/13,449ft) and the Jungfrau (4,158 m/13,642ft).
		The massif is drained on the north by the Saane, Simme, Kander and other rivers, on the south by the Rhône, which is fed by the Aletsch glacier and Rhône glacier and by its right-bank tributaries.

		Im Gegensatz zu zahlreichen anderen Viertausendern steht man auf dem Gipfel des Aletschhorns auf einem reichlich bemessenen Gipfelplateau.
		Gegen später, bei Nacht und Nebel, stellen sich noch zwei Berliner im Biwak ein, deren Plan es ist, am nächsten Tag das Aletschhorn zu besteigen.
		Das Einschlafen fällt trotz der Ermattung nicht leicht, man muß erst eine ganze Weile unter den Wolldecken zittern, bis sich in den nassen Klamotten die nötige Wärme einstellt.
