The Aleutians West Census Area lies in the westernmost part of Alaska, comprising the western portion of the Aleutian Islands along with the Pribilof Islands to the north in the Bering Sea.
It is bordered on the east by Aleutians East Borough; its nearest neighbors to the west are the Komandorskiy Islands and Kamchatka Peninsula in Siberia (Russian Federation).
Aleutians West Census Area has a maritime climate (or arctic maritime in the Pribilofs), with temperatures ranging from about from 11 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit (sometimes with severe wind chill) and annual precipitation of 23to 58 inches, depending on locality, and and average snowfall of 0 to 100 inches, again depending on locality.
