Alex Delvecchio, who lost his job as center for high-scoring wings Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay at midseason because of his inability to score goals, notches two tonight to spark the Red Wings to a 3-1 victory and the Cup.
Between Delvecchio's goals, Howe scores his ninth of the playoffs as he sets a postseason record with 20 points (in 11 games).
While Terry Sawchuk loses his shutout late in the third period, he is instrumental in the Red Wings duplicating their feat of last season, when they also won the Stanley Cup by beating the Canadiens in Game 7 in Detroit.
