Alex and his wife, Joan, epitomize the characteristics that Bishop's attempts to instill in its graduates: compassion, wisdom, tolerance, intelligence, and an infectious zest for life.
Of their four children C Robb, Tim, Angie and Alex C the latter two graduated from Bishop's in 1980 and 1983, as did their son-in-law Peter Arndt in 1981 and their niece Valerie Chafe Hinsperger in 1978.

Paterson was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1957, started his professional career in 1957 with McMaster Meighen, and in 1971 was admitted to the Bar of Alberta.
Paterson also pleaded the case of Attorney General of Québec vs. Bank of Montréal before the Supreme Court of Canada, and the principle of prescription relating to claims involving the Crown, was varied by unanimous judgement, overturning the lower courts on that occasion.
Paterson has also represented several of the large accounting firms, acting for their insurers in professional liability cases, the most recent of which related to the independence of the auditor and the rules that should cover that independence.

Paterson, recently a father himself (and possibly further tired by the stresses of a young baby), is discovering "the relationship I never had".
Paterson and pals' favourite pastime was wrapping themselves in blankets and throwing themselves downstairs.

Alex has been busy DJ'ing around the world and with his project with Thomas Fehlmann, Le Petit Orb.
Alex will be cutting down on his Djing in the autumn, as he will be needed for promo work on the album and will preparing to tour the full Orb Show at the beginning of next year.
This date at the Cavern will be one of the last chances to hear Alex playing a DJ set in a club for quite a while.

Alex is an engineer from Falkirk, although he did not work at Carron Ironworks until late in his career.
Alex still has the order books, and showed the meeting some examples from 1882, including guns, drawings, machine tools for manufacturing guns up to 30cm calibre and 9ft long.
Alex’s ability with words as much as his engineering acumen entertained as well as informed the meeting.

"Dr." Alex Paterson was a former Killing Joke roadie who got caught up in the acid house revolution alongside fellow punk dropouts Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond (who formed the KLF).
Paterson split with Thrash and Island records after the Orb Live 93 album, and The Orb briefly drifted towards obscurity as ambient house fell from fashion, only to rebound with 1997's successful Orblivion.
Paterson's playfulness also balances out this album's proggish tendencies: ambient dub monsters "o.o.b.e" and "The Blue Room" survive their quarter-hour duration with just the right amount of disorienting samples (rambling lecturers, train whistles, bubbling water).

Sailing with daughter Alex they took the U.K. Cherub National Championship in a Paterson 6 design, and two weeks later Andy was runner up in the International Moth U.K. Championships in an Axeman 6 Moth.

Try tapping your feet to either of the Orb's first two albums and you'll discover that Alex Paterson is more concerned with recreating the progressive rock of his youth than hitting the perfect beat.
Until last year, Paterson was still doing DJ gigs at clubs, most ohen spinning records in a chill out room at London's Land of Oz.
What makes Paterson, a former Killing Joke roadie, such an important personality on the ambient/dance scene is that he's made it possible for DJs to transcend themselves, to become autonomous artists; still dependent on other people's records, but only as outlets for their own creativity.

Andy Paterson, sailing with Una-mary Colclough in Paterson 7 design Cherub 2676 'Shiny Beast' cannot start enough races to feature in the overall results, in spite of some excellent performances, finishing minutes clear of the next Cherub (and other boats on handicap) in several races.
The Paterson's local sailing club (Gurnard Sailing Club on the Isle of Wight) after analysing Andy's performance in club racing (ie beating 'fast' boats like laser 4 tonners and even RS800s around the course) think that the Cherub's (or Andy's) handicap is too generous, and so have reduced it by a whopping 11 %.

All this was to change however, as virtually no-one had read the race instructions properly, and lots of people had managed to sail between the gate buoy and the outer distance instead of gate and committee boat.
The wind dropped slightly during this race, and as it stopped the Patersons seemed to be able to sail lower and faster (or at least less slowly) than everyone else on the runs.
The Patersons seem to have very good moderate wind speed, especially downwind, but there's no doubt that Dave has an ability to put in a blistering lap or two when it really counts.
