		In 1996 Alex Riel and Stunt won a Danish Grammy for the cd "The Riel Deal", and for a couple of weeks "Unriel" from 1997 was in the Ame- rican jazz charts, which is highly unusual for European jazz recordings.
		For Alex Riel it was natural to continue his collaboration with the musicians from the previous projects.
		The result is probably the most perfect of all Alex Riel's recordings, characterized by musical playfulness and respect for the tradition in an astonishing interaction among some of the world's greatest musicians.

	Alex Riel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Alex Riel, (September 13, 1940 in Copenhagen, Denmark), is a Danish jazz and rock drummer.
		Riel has recorded with, among others, Kenny Drew, Bob Brookmeyer, Thomas Clausen, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Jackie McLean, and Dexter Gordon.
		He was also a founding member in 1968 of the popular Danish rock group The Savage Rose.

		The CD, Celebration, was recorded live at the Copenhagen JazzHouse by Danish Radio in celebration of Riel's sixtieth birthday in September 2000, and released by Stunt Records.
		Riel is a more extroverted drummer and brings out this side of Werner; they both like playing without making too much advance planning.
		Riel has a very nice drum solo on one of my favorite standards, "You and the Night and the Music." You can tell that Riel really loves drums.

		Those not familiar with Alex, he is an amazing drummer.There is a video of Alex with Eddie Gomez and pianist Bill Evans, that is astounding, if you can find it.

		First, veteran drummer Alex Riel, a proven master of hard bop and big band percussion, simply cannot fit his stylish swing (along the lines of Mel Lewis,) seamlessly to the the two mid-tempo tracks.
		No doubt fans of this music have become accustomed to the floating lift supplied by the numerous African drummers and others but the able enough Riel sounds exposed on the two aforementioned tracks.
		After a soft guitar chord, Riel and percussionist Jose Cortijo hook up a lilting veldt vamp and a solo flute -with Ellingtonesque coloration tracking it- seemingly discover the theme.
