William H. Cosby, Jr., is truly a Renaissance man. In his illustrious career, he has enjoyed success in many diverse fields, including stand-up comedy, publishing, feature films, recording, education, and, of course, television.
By 1965, Cosby made the jump from stand-up comedy to television when he snagged one of the leading roles in I SPY opposite Robert Culp.
Cosby was highly active in television throughout the 1970s, with a stint on THE ELECTRIC COMPANY, the animated FAT ALBERT AND THE COSBY KIDS, THE NEW BILL COSBY SHOW, and COS.

Historical Biographies, Nova Scotia: Alexander Cosby (1685-1742).
The ninth son of an Irish noble family, Cosby, as was the custom of the younger sons of nobles, joined the military and became an officer.
Cosby was "habitually quarrelsome" and fought with his fellow officers both at Canso and at Annapolis Royal; though, it seems, Cosby always had the upper hand, and this because his brother-in-law was the Governor.
Cosby and Mascarene refused to speak with one another and "the conflict continued unabated until Cosby's sudden death at Annapolis Royal on December 27th, 1742." (Calnek has his widow, Anne, living "for nearly half a century" at Annapolis Royal where "she was known and respected as 'Madame Cosby'.")

Considering Zenger: Partisan Politics and the Legal Profession in Provincial New York
Cosby, who had a substantial financial interest in the seizure, was reputed to have denied the right of appeal and secreted or destroyed documents to prevent the reversal of his decision.
Alexander, Chambers, Murray, Smith--seated around a table negotiating the interests of the Bar (at least their segment of it), they were laying the foundations that, despite their divisions in 1734-35, would keep the explosion of partisan rancor from destroying the courts, the legal system, and their fortunes.
Cosby's death put the dice back into the box for another throw, and the whole long story of contest with edge-tools seemed to be resolved on a note of anti-climax.

And, as Cosby clumsily pointed out, it IS the job of fl parents (and every parent, for that matter) to help their offspring pursue the best path for future success in the United States — old-fashioned book-learning.
Cosby and his wife, Camille, endorsed our book when it was published in 2000, and while I've never met him, I am honored to have Cosby's blurb on my work.

Bill Cosby was not only the first fl actor to star in a television drama, but he played a supremely smart and capable spy who could also play tennis.
Cosby won three Emmys in his role as Alexander Scott, the secret agent who traveled the world masquerading as trainer to fellow spy Culp, undercover as tennis pro Kelly Robinson.
The TV show was notable for a number of things: the casting of Cosby as Alex Scott (back then, the "trainer" for Culp's tennis pro Kelly), the round-the-world location shooting, the urbane cool of the two leads and their interracial friendship.

James Alexander was born in Scotland, heir to the title of Earl of Stirling, in 1691.

Alexander was also still considered to be a member of the Council of New Jersey.

I honestly didn't think Andrew Cosby would be able to pull it off in three issues, but after the action and information-packed second issue, he got my hopes up and, thankfully, delivers a satisying conclusion that also leaves the door wide open for a follow-up.
Offering a balanced mix of exposition and action, Cosby reveals why Cole is a such a driven hard-ass, adds a bit more to the political subtext, and maintains the overall sense of danger and foreboding by keeping the infected mysterious, unpredictable and rarely seen.
Alexander's art - which I despised during his fill-in arc on Gotham Central a while back - has been perfect for this story, from his almost too-dark, claustrophobic work on the first issue to his varied tones here.

Key Figures in the Zenger Trial
Governor William Cosby is generally portrayed as the villain of this story and, indeed, there is little to be said on his behalf.
Alexander emigrated to New York where he commenced his legal practice and became a leading member of the popular party--the party critical of Cosby and his policies.
He told the jury that the truth or falsity of the criticisms of Cosby was not relevant under the law--and that any such attacks on the governor's policies and competence was seditious libel as a matter of law.

The Bill Cosby Show debuted in September of 1969, featuring Cosby as a gym teacher at a (fictional) Los Angeles area high school; it remains one of the most underrated series in television history.
