Dallas was in 1829 elected mayor, and, on the elevation of General Jackson to the presidency, in 1829 was appointed U. attorney for that district.

Although peace brought a more favorable condition of the money market, Dallass attempt to fund the treasury notes on a satisfactory basis was unsuccessful, but a bill, reported by Calhoun, as chairman of the committee on national currency, for the establishment of a national bank, became law on the joth of April 1816.
His brother, ROBERT CIIARLES DALLAS (17 541824), was born in Jamaica, and lived at various times in the West Indies, the United States, England and France.
