The Alexandra Theatre, commonly known as The Alex is a theatre on Suffolk Street in Birmingham, England.
The theatre was first opened in 1900 but was rebuilt with a fine Art Deco auditorium in 1935.
Although the main entrance was originally situated on John Bright Street, the building was extended across to a new main entrance on Suffolk street in 1967.

The theatre, commonly known as the Royal Alex is named for Queen Alexandra, the wife of King Edward VII.

Named after Queen Alexandra, it was built in 1907 at a cost of $750,000 by a Toronto syndicate headed by Cawthra Mulock and including the stockbroker R.A. Smith, the manufacturer Stephen Haas, and the entrepreneur M.L. Solman.
The theatre opened 26 Aug 1907 with the musical revue Top of the World by Mark Swann and soon was established as one of the leading playhouses in North America.
It established a new record for the theatre with a run of 63 weeks (15 Mar 1989-26 May 1990), followed by a national tour and then a return to the Royal Alex in 1991.

The Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto, completed in 1907 at a cost of $750 000, is one of the few surviving large professional theatres found in numerous Canadian cities at the turn of the century.
It was designed by John LYLE in 1906 for a group of prominent businessmen headed by Cawthra Mulock.
In 1963 the theatre was purchased by the Toronto entrepreneur "Honest Ed" MIRVISH and restored to its Edwardian beauty at a cost of $500 000.

The Royal Alexandra theatre was built amid a park like setting on King Street West, which at the time was a beautiful well-treed boulevard.
To the west of the theatre was the Upper Canada College campus, to the east was the mansion of its builder Cawthra Mulock and to the south was the residence of the Lieutenant Governor.
By 1962 the theatre was slated for demolition.
