Several councils around Australia flew the Tibetan flag as a gesture of support.
A number of Australian Councils showed their support for Tibet by flying the Tibetan flag on Wednesday March 10, 2004.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the following Councils for participating in the international campaign that commemorates that fateful day in 1959 when thousands of unarmed Tibetans lost their life protesting against the invasion and occupation of their country.

 Major Issues - Salinity
The Councils within the Murray and Mallee Local Government Association in partnership with Alexandrina Council have taken a proactive approach to this issue, by initiating their own study to determine how the relevant Development Plans could best address salinity and other catchment management issues.
The River Murray Catchment Water Management Board is proud to be associated with this project as both a key financial partner and an active participant in the project.
As the protection of the River Murray and its water dependent ecosystems is considered a matter of state significance the relevant Councils and the Minister for Planning are now considering addressing the Development Plan Review as a Ministerial Plan Amendment Report (PAR).

I have no other information to date and have been advised by Council’s personal assistant to the CEO that the minutes of the Special Meeting on the budget will not be available on the web until next Monday.
Alexandrina Council’s General Purpose Grant is at the minimum entitlement of 30% of the total amount of equalisation funds on a per capita basis.
Unfortunately, Council’s lower rate in the dollar for primary producers compared with the state average indicates a trend that the residential ratepayers will be forced to subsidise the rural ratepayer again with increased rates.

I was elected to the Alexandrina Council in 2000 as a Ward Councillor for the township of Strathalbyn and was elected Deputy Mayor in 2003.
The Council head office is situated at the River Port of Goolwa, at the mouth of the River Murray.
An engineer employed by Council in those years was careful to take as much as possible of the reserve land designated through those planning regulations along the creek lines, as much for flood control as for environment preservation.

The Strathalbyn Racing Club and Alexandrina Council, in close association with the Fleurieu Regional Development Board combined to provide a solution to the management of the town's effluent in a manner that met all EPA guidelines and enabled the racecourse to effectively maintain and develop its racing and training surfaces.
TRSA, the peak racing body and the Commonwealth Government also assisted with funds for the development and the total cost of the project was in excess of $900,000 on completion.
Alexandrina Council provides untreated grey water to the course by means of a rising main (3.8km) and associated pumping costs.

 Murray River Web Site - Goolwa
Goolwa is at the mouth of the Murray River on Lake Alexandrina, 83 km south of Adelaide and 19 km from Victor Harbour.
Seawater is prevented from entering Lake Alexandrina, Lake Albert and the River Murray by a barrage 632m long.
Goolwa still has it's past traditions of shipbuilding, trade and transport, but is now a growing tourist and holiday centre, and the paddle steamers on the river as a tourist attraction are a link with it's past.

  (4) The Council must, after consultation with the Minister, give notice of an amount payable under this section with respect to a relevant allotment to the person who is the principal ratepayer for the land comprising the allotment for the purposes of the Local Government Act 1934.

The Fleurieu Region Community Grants Program is funded by the Yankalilla, Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Councils to assistance community groups and organisations in the planning, coordination and provision of community services to improve the quality of life, independence and well being of people within the Fleurieu region.

 Corella Research Project
In response to these complaints the City of Onkaparinga, Alexandrina Council and the Department of Environment and Heritage made application to the Local Government Research and Development Scheme for funding of a research project to study the Little Corellas on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
This application was successful and the project consultancy was awarded to QED Consulting in August 2002.
