Alexandros Zaimis (Greek: Αλέξανδρος Ζαΐμης) (1855–1936) was a Greek political figure.
The son of Thrasivoulos Zaimis, a former Prime Minister of Greece, he entered politics at a young age, becoming a member of parliament in 1885, and a Prime Minister for the first time in 1897.
Patriarch Gregorius was born in 1750 in Dimitsana of Moreas.

Venizelos became leader of the opposition, and when matters came to a head, led an armed insurgency, which eventually forced the prince to leave the island.
He was replaced by former Greek prime minister Alexandros Zaimis.
In 1910, in Athens, the Parliament was dissolved in a political crisis.

As a result of this recognition the Great Powers in August 1906 granted King George Ist of Greece the right to appoint the Cretan High Commissioner without the prior approval of the Ottoman government, a development which constituted a significant step in the advancement of the Cretan Question.
Thus, following the resignation of Prince George on 12th September 1906, King George Ist appointed as High Commissioner of Crete Alexandros Zaimis, a former Prime Minister of Greece and later President of the Greek Democracy.
On 2nd December 1906 the Second Constituent Assembly, which had been established in June 1906 by joint agreement of the Therisso revolutionaries and the representatives of the Cretan Parliament, submitted to Alexandros Zaimis the new Cretan Constitution drafted with Venizelos' participation.

However the main goal was the enosis with Greece which came after Venizelos's constant opposition to Prince George's rule over Crete.
The series of conflicts includes the Revolution of Therissos in 1905, which overthrew Prince George and brought Alexandros Zaimis to rule Crete.
Finally in 1908 Venizelos managed to establish a revolutionary government, recognized by the Great Powers.

He helped to depose King George II, formed his own party, the National Republicans, and served as minister of war (1924) and minister of the interior (1924-25).
In August 1926 he overthrew the military dictator Theodoros Pangalos in a bloodless coup d'état and became prime minister; to the surprise of many he handed over the administration after the elections of November to Alexandros Zaimis, dissolved his party, and retired from politics.
But in May 1927 he called his National Republicans together again and reentered politics.
