Alexei Kovalev (Алексей Ковалев, Aleksej Kovalev; born February 24, 1973 in Togliatti, Russia) is a Russian professional ice hockey rightwinger.
Alexei Kovalev was drafted 15th overall in the 1991 Entry Draft by the New York Rangers, becoming the first Russian player even selected in the first round of the NHL Draft.
In 1998-99, Alexei was traded with Harry York to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Petr Nedved, Chris Tamer and Sean Pronger on November 25, 1998.
