The latter shared few panels with the SZ and was some 100kgs heavier due to the strengthening required.

 Alfa Romeo SZ
The SZ was never intended to be a state of the art machine brimming with sophisticated electronics, instead Alfa wanted a synthesis of traditional technologies.
Alfa commissioned two teams to create proposals for the SZ bodywork, one at Alfa Romeo's own Centro Stile and the other at Fiat's design centre.
Although a 68-litre fuel tank was mounted behind the seats, a useful amount of luggage space remained, this area being covered in same light brown carpet as the rest of the floor and featuring a pair of traditional leather retaining straps (in beige).

Supercharging has a particularly special place in Alfa Romeo's rich and fabulous sporting history, a tradition which must be considered with the imminent launch of Autodelta's latest supercharged creation, the GT Super, and their 'Evo 2' supercharger conversion for the SZ.
This modern day icon, considered as the last of the 'true' rear wheel drive Alfa Romeos, is synonymous with the London firm, and the power junkies at Autodelta, after boring-out no less than nine SZ's to 3.5-litres, first introduced a supercharged conversion in 2002.

Alfa Romeo SZ Alfa Romeo SZ Alfa Romeo SZ Alfa Romeo SZ The Alfa SZ or ES30 (Experimental Sports car 30) is one of the most controversial Alfa Romeos ever.
However, the car was just what Alfa Romeo needed at the time, the company was almost bankrupt and Fiat had not had time to invest significant amounts of money in Alfa Romeo and so a stop gap was needed to raise the profile of Alfa Romeo.
Alfa Romeo produced 1036 SZ's including prototypes and pre-production cars and they are a testament to individualism.

Born by accident — the Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ - Classic Driver - MAGAZINE - features
Although many enthusiasts are familiar with the later racing TZ1 and TZ2 Alfa Romeos, few may realise the idea was born in 1956 when the destroyed Sprint Veloce was taken to Elio Zagato, with the aim of rebuilding the wreck as light as possible, with a totally new, more aerodynamic, body.
The engineers at Alfa and Bertone, who designed the standard car’s body, were not exactly enamoured with Zagato’s efforts, feeling it was taking sales away from their cars.
The result was a purpose made customer race car for Alfa Romeo, leaving them to sell the Giulietta in quantity and cater for the well-heeled European set with their own SS, itself now becoming a luxury GT car.
