Deller founded the Stout Music Festival in 1963 in order to have another venue for his Consort and to team with other early music specialists such as Frans Brüggen and Gustav Leonhardt.
Deller's expressive voice literally was the cause for the discovery of an entirely new repertoire for British concert-goers, and his hundreds of recordings are still prized by collectors.

Countertenor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The countertenor voice went through a massive resurgence in popularity in the second half of the 20th century, partly caused by pioneers such as Alfred Deller and by the increased popularity of Baroque opera and also due to a need of male singers to replace the castrati roles in opera.
The most visible icon of the countertenor revival was Alfred Deller, an English singer and champion of authentic early music performance.
Deller was the first modern countertenor to achieve such celebrity, but he would not be the last.

In 1948, Deller, at the forefront of the early music movement, founded the Deller Consort, a vocal ensemble specializing in medieval, renaissance, and baroque music.
Deller debuted the part of Shakespeare's famous fairy king at the Aldeburgh Festival that same year, and made musical history in the process.
Yet, unlike the majority of contemporary countertenors, who use their entire vocal chords to produce a sound that is rich and resonant, Deller was a falsettist, using only the edges of the vocal chords to create a thinner, lighter voice that was better suited to songs, oratorios, and chamber opera than larger operatic works.

The Deller Consort, one of the earliest groups to revive English Baroque and pre-Baroque music, was established in 1950 by countertenor Alfred Deller.
Bevan was an integral member of the Deller Consort, which inevitably changed over the years; Alfred Deller died in 1979 and was succeeded by his son, Mark, who had been a member since 1964.
He also became a regular tutor and mentor at Deller's summer school, the Deller Academy, at Lacoste in Provence.
