  Alfred Lande

History of Twentieth-Century Philosophy of Science Book 5
Lande was a German-born American physicist, who received a doctorate in physics in 1914 from the University of Munich, where he studied under Sommerfeld.
Scientific Papers Presented to Max Born (1953) Lande argues that classical thermodynamics cannot be reduced to deterministic mechanics, and that it is futile to search for hidden causes behind any distribution that satisfies the rules of probability either in classical or quantum physics.
Lande rejects the Copenhagen thesis that effectively equates "indirectly observed" with "not observed", and then with "not observable", and finally with "nonexistent" and "meaningless.” The Copenhagen school wrongly maintains that only direct measures count as observation.

Spin Hypothesis   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Landé's proposal[137] (1923) to fit the experimental data was that m should be half-integral for the alkalis
Uhlenbeck and Goudsmit[141] postulated (1925) that it was the electron itself (and not the atomic core as assumed by Landé) which possessed an additional angular momentum, of half-integral value, with a g-factor (by the Landé formula) equal twice that for its orbital angular momentum.
While it was clearly Landé who actually did the work separating the well-known physical constants from the g-factor in the gyromagnetic ratio, the essence of the Uhlenbeck and Goudsmit hypothesis is to associate the physical content of the g-factor to a new property of the electron.

Then the land turned eastward there, or the sea [turned] into the land, he did not know which, but he knew that he waited there for a wind from the west and a little from the north, and then sailed east along the land as far as he could sail in four days.
He had not previously encountered any settled land since he travelled from his own home; but all the way there was waste land on his starboard, except for fishers and fowlers and hunters, and that was all Sámi; and open sea was always on his port side.

The first two letters of the Lande type are a code for the outfitters' name: MF is used for printed forms carrying all incarnations of the M'Tavish, Frobisher & Co. GN is used to indicate that the contract is a generic form, with no company name printed at top.
Jean-Marie Boucher enjoyed a long and active life in the fur trade and eventually established a house and store right outside the compound at Fort William where he was renowned for his ability to induce the voyageurs to part with their hard-earned funds and even extended credit to them.
Voyageurs usually carried two packs of 90 pounds per trip; mention is made in the contract when the voyageur is willing to carry four packs of fur, but this is the first contract where the voyageur agrees to carry six packs (or 540 lbs!).

Proof of this can be shown by the equality of photon momentum and binary orbital momentum calculations for a specific energy photon; and is exemplified by "light pressure." (see Photon Structure, by T. Long)

Realism is proposed here as naive, not in the sense of naive realism (that declares true all careful observations) but as the proposal to take scientific theories fairly literally.
The alleged determinism of classical mechanics was based on the supposition that particle dynamics fully determine trajectories out of any permissible initial conditions on any permissible equations of force and motion.
This, however, does not detract from the importance of his claim and his approach the argument was simply replaced by one developed by Landé and Popper later on.
