AQUITAINE - Online Information article about AQUITAINE
Louis, and as Louis was generally described as a king, Aquitaine is referred to during the Carolingian period as a kingdom, and not as a duchy.
The new duchy of Aquitaine, comprising the three districts already mentioned, remained in the hands of Rainulf's successors, in spite of some trouble with their Frankish over-lords, until 893 when Count Rainulf II.
Guienne, a corruption of Aquitaine, seems to have come into use about the loth century, and the subsequent history of Aquitaine is merged in that of Gascony (q.v.) and Guienne (q.v.).

Alfred died in 899, aged 50, and was buried in Winchester, the burial place of the West Saxon royal family.

Alfred was born atWantage in 849, the youngest son of King Ethelwulf of Wessex and hisfirst wife, Osburh.
Alfred was probably a good deal more aware of the continent of Europethan have been at least some nineteenth and twentieth-century historianswho have devoted their attention to him.
Alfred's Winchester was not exactly a capitalcity in our sense of the term, but it was the closest thing to one inWessex---a favoured royal residence, a place of ceremonial, prayer andliturgy, a fit setting for solemn acts of state and a mausoleum wherekings would rest and be remembered after their deaths.

Gnostic Origins of Alfred Rosenberg's Thought
It is my contention here that Alfred Rosenberg's Myth of the 20th Century is quintessentially a gnostic work which attempted to set the stage for subsequent works which would have taken Germany back in time to a stage in which a simplified, anti-Jewish religion was the common practice in the West among the common peoples.
In Alfred Rosenberg's Myth of the 20th Century the Grail may be viewed as the cause of German objection to some aspects of Christianity, notably to Roman Catholicism.
In 1028 William V, Duke of Aquitaine, summoned a council of bishops to deal with the heresy, and there it was held that it had spread northward from Italy.

PARIS – A French prosecutor demanded the maximum prison sentence Thursday for the former president of state-run oil giant Elf Aquitaine, saying he and two other senior officials were at the heart of a vast corruption network that lined their pockets and secretly bankrolled politicians and African leaders.

Pignon is seeking a maximum five-year prison sentence and a $444,600 fine for Le Floch-Prigent; for Sirven and Tarallo, she is seeking eight-year prison terms and fines of $5.85 million each.

Alfred’s task of uniting fractious allies and creating a defense that could withstand the Danes, as well as the intimate look at a marriage of convenience that becomes a tender love match, makes for an intricate tapestry of history and relationships.

The connection had definitely been made by the late 9th century, when Asser notes in his biography of King Alfred (contemporary with the first appearance of the Chronicle) that Alfred's mother traced her descent to Stuf and Wihtgar.
It may be that the Jutish founders of Wight were "attached" to the West Saxon royal house to give Alfred's mother Osburh higher standing, either during the marriage or afterwards when Alfred's father Æthelwulf brought home a Frankish princess as his second wife.
The children of the first wife may well have felt a need to bolster their claim by proving that they too were royal on both their father's and their mother's side.
